The OEM lighting system in a 2001 MY is the projector lamp, which is a high quality halogen lighting system. 9006 is not compatible with an OEM lighting system (unless the incorrect bulb was installed). The standard BMW halogen lighting system uses H7. You really to need to educate yourself regarding the different lighting systems, the pros and cons and what you actually have. If you currently use an H1 bulb (and there is no reason to have that unless the previous owner butchered your lighting system), then you have a standard halogen lighting system. H7, H are bulb designations for halogen bulbs. Wait a minute are you saying that my 2001 BMW 530i did not come originally with xeon lights? The halogen setup used H7 halogens for the high beams, and H7 halogens for the low/high combo lights. However the light output from these bulbs is diminished due to blue coating. So manufacturers coat halogen bulbs with a bluish coating so the halogen bulbs throw a bluish white light giving it a Xenon look. HID/Xenons throw a whitish blue light some people like that look versus the yellowish light from halogens. HID and Xenon (most people use the terms interchangeably) are a whole different technology that use ballasts to power the bulbs. Halogen is one type of technology it uses the standard type bulbs cars have been using for the past 50yrs. Halogen and HID/xenon are two different technologies (keep in mind this is a vast oversimplification) There seems to be some confusion over what type of bulb you need and the diff b/t halogen and HID/Xenon. Perhaps I am just missing something, but there are a couple things off here.
